Hrdibořice: Nature Reserve, Ponds and Regional Traditions
Accommodation in Hrdibořice
Pond landscape with rare species
Nature, water and village traditions give Hrdibořice a distinctive character. The Hrdibořické rybníky ponds are particularly prominent: they are a national nature reserve established in 1990 to protect peat meadows with rare plant and animal species. This combines a specific landscape history with remarkable biodiversity, making the area interesting for visitors who enjoy nature. An excursion here combines observing the landscape and wildlife with a concrete conservation purpose that shapes the character of the area.
The Hrdibořické rybníky consist of Velký rybník, Malý rybník and four smaller ponds created through peat extraction. In addition to the two larger ponds, the area includes four smaller bodies of water originating from peat extraction. Open water thus lies alongside wetlands, meadows, copses and woodland as a range of habitats with different characteristics. The Hrdibořické rybníky are home to one of only two populations of Matizna bahenní in the Czech Republic. A total of 67 bird species have been recorded in the Hrdibořické rybníky area; its habitats include ponds, wetlands, meadows, copses and woodland. The combination of several landscape types is particularly interesting for nature observation. Those travelling to Hrdibořice and paying attention to different landscape forms and specific natural details will therefore find more here than just a body of water.
Water and birdlife at Blata 3
Another facet of the local aquatic landscape is the Blata 3 fishing ground in Hrdibořice. It covers 11.0 hectares and is stocked with carp, tench, bream, Prussian carp, pike and zander. While fishing at the Blata 3 fishing ground, you can observe numerous waterbirds among the reeds and along the banks. Fish stocks and shoreline habitats are therefore part of the same specific experience by the water, without the two aspects needing to be confused with each other.
On foot or by bicycle from Vrbátky
You can reach the Hrdibořické rybníky from Vrbátky by bicycle or on foot: first via a paved road and then along a well-maintained dirt track. By taking the type of path into account when planning your day, you can approach the excursion as a walk or bike ride and allow for the change from paved road to dirt track. This precise route description provides clear guidance for planning an excursion without assuming a particular duration or level of difficulty.
Chapel and vibrant village tradition
Hrdibořice's culture also has tangible points of interest. The Chapel of Saint Florian was built in 1749. Each year, the local straw nativity scene in Hrdibořice is expanded with new figures together with friends. The tradition of the Hrdibořice straw nativity scene was founded 15 years ago by Františka Novosadová together with friends; Novosadová looks after the local library. Thus, alongside the nature reserve, ponds and bird species, a historic chapel and a local tradition that continues to be expanded to this day also represent the village's distinctive character.
