Hoštejn: Cultural Monuments and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Hoštejn
Hoštejn combines preserved traces of a former castle with cultural monuments, an accessible educational trail, and designated cycling routes. If you are looking for a place in the Czech Republic with a variety of historical and active experiences, you can choose between culture, a walk, and longer cycling routes here.
Cultural History Around Hradiště Hoštejn
The remains of the walls of a former Gothic castle have been preserved at Hradiště Hoštejn. The fortification system of Hradiště Hoštejn extends for more than 450 metres. The wall remains and the extensive layout of the fortifications give this historic site a sense of scale. Hoštejn thus combines the preserved parts of a former Gothic castle with a clearly defined historical complex.
The monument commemorating the completion of the Olomouc–Praha railway is located in the area of the Hoštejn castle ruins. It is an immovable cultural monument. Another historic building is the rectory in Hoštejn, which was built in 1809 or 1810. Today’s Church of St Anne complements this cultural focus: construction began in 1867, and it was completed two years later. The historical points of interest in Hoštejn therefore range from the former castle and railway history to sacred and local architectural history.
Museum and Educational Trail
The Muzeum naší dědiny museum can be visited by prior appointment. Plan your visit as a separate part of your itinerary and arrange it in advance. This keeps the museum visit clearly separate from spontaneous sightseeing, while Hoštejn’s historic sites offer further cultural points of interest.
The Srní educational trail can also be included in your orientation around the area. It can be reached from the Hoštejn škola bus stop and from Hoštejn railway station. This gives you two specific starting points for your outing: the bus stop and the railway station. No particular distance or walking time needs to be assumed, so the choice of starting point remains open.
Cycling Routes Connected with Hoštejn
Two cycling routes of different lengths are available for a longer bike ride. The 18-kilometre “Na kole po památkách” cycling route passes through Kosov to Hoštejn, where it connects to Cycle Route No. 6232. The 25-kilometre “Na kole okolím Zábřeha II” cycling route leads via Cycle Routes Nos. 521 and 6232 to Hoštejn. The 18-kilometre route is therefore the shorter option, while the 25-kilometre route offers a longer itinerary. You can thus choose the route according to your preferred distance and the respective course.
Tradition Surrounding Saint Anne
The pilgrimage to Saint Anne in Hoštejn traditionally takes place on the first Sunday after the feast of Saint Anne. This recurring date complements the architectural and historical sights with a religious custom. If you are planning your trip around a particular season or a set date, you should treat this date as a separate part of your planning.
