Vřesina

Vřesina combines local history, designated trails and special excursion destinations with a tram connection. This gives you a destination where religious monuments, a historic railway tradition, cycling opportunities and seasonal offerings at Skalka Family Park exist side by side.

Culture and living traditions

A prominent landmark is the Church of St Anthony of Padua. It was consecrated on 13 June 1998 by Bishop František Václav Lobkowicz. There is also a chapel with a bell tower by the school, classified as an immovable cultural monument. Another memorial site is the Boží muka: it was unveiled and consecrated on 5 October 2014 at the site of an old tragedy. In Vřesina, you will therefore encounter different forms of local remembrance—from the church and the cultural monument to the memorial site created later. Local customs also give Vřesina its own character. The “Mařák” tradition of carrying out winter and welcoming spring was observed irregularly from 1905 onward and continues to this day. Mařák and steam operation thus provide a contrast in time: the custom continues to this day, while steam operation belongs to the route’s past history. Steam operation on the Svinov–Poruba–Vřesina route offers a historical perspective on regional mobility; it began on 2 August 1925. This is a past chapter in the route’s history, not a statement about steam operation today.

Cycling and designated trails

Cycling Route 6199 runs through Vřesina from Dolní Lhota via wooded areas and local roads to the town centre and onward towards the Mexiko settlement. The Radegast-Silesia Cycling Route also runs through Vřesina together with designated Cycling Route 6199. For walks, the Pěšina Jeníčky–U Peterka in Vřesina is designated as a walking loop. The loop complements the cycling connections with its own type of route. Štefanova skála is one of Vřesina’s tourist destinations in the “Bodies of Water and Watercourses” category. Alongside the designated walking route, this provides another destination and a different thematic classification within the municipality.

Excursion options for different days

In summer, Skalka Family Park offers up to 55 entertainment attractions. The facilities also include a 350-metre ski slope, a children’s ski park and a covered, artificially cooled ice rink. The ski slope and the ice rink represent two different winter sports. The range therefore extends from summer attractions to expressly listed facilities for winter sports and ice skating. Different leisure activities come together at the same destination, without this allowing opening hours or seasonal dates to be inferred.
