Dolnà Lhota – Village History, Cycling Routes and Forest Educational Trail
Dolnà Lhota combines local history with cycling routes, woodland nature and a direct connection to Ostrava. The village lies on the left bank of the middle section of the Porubka stream; historical references date back to 1377.
History and Notable Places in the Village
Among the notable buildings is the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, which stands as a distinctive architectural landmark in Dolnà Lhota. The chapels also tell different chapters of the village’s history. The new chapel was consecrated on 8 August 2004 after extensive renovation. Following its restoration in 2023, the village chapel was made accessible so that passers-by can look inside.
Other memorial sites are located at everyday points around the village. A monument in the local cemetery commemorates fallen tank crews. Near the school stands a monument to T. G. Masaryk, the founder of the Czechoslovak state and its first president. A walk through Dolnà Lhota can therefore also be combined with historical points of interest, without a single major visitor attraction having to be the main focus.
Forest Educational Trail and Cycling Excursions
An educational trail introduces visitors in a playful way to interesting plant and animal species found in the local forest. It is approximately 1 km long and has 17 educational stations. This gives Dolnà Lhota its own nature experience alongside its architectural and historical sites, with information directly connected to the forest.
For cyclists, Cycling Route 6199 is described particularly clearly: it runs through Dolnà Lhota from Vřesina towards Hornà Lhota. Within the municipality, it follows a forest track alongside a yellow hiking trail marker; an information board stands near the bicycle tram stop. In addition, the Radegast Slezsko cycling trail runs from Velká Polom to Dolnà Lhota. From the village centre, it follows Lesnà Street together with Cycling Route 6199. Dolnà Lhota also has a cycle path and hiking trail markers maintained by the KČT.
Tram line 915005 connects Ostrava, Dolnà Lhota and Budišovice.
Cycling- and Running-Related Events
The event calendar contains both planned and already documented examples. The 8th edition of the Dolnolhotský BAJK mountain bike race is scheduled to take place in Dolnà Lhota on Saturday, 19 June 2027. Dolnolhotský BAJK also includes mountain bike races for children in categories K and H. For families looking for an active event, this distinction between the main race and the children’s categories is particularly relevant.
The Obora Trail Run offered 5 km and 10 km courses as well as children’s races over distances from 100 to 900 m. A BEERFEST was announced for Dolnolhotský Škrpál, with refreshments such as pancakes, cake, sausages in a bun and potato pancakes. The fact that this was an announcement remains important: it does not describe an ongoing or regularly available event.
