Staré Město combines a distinctive river landscape with small cultural monuments and traces of older history. The Profil Morávky area is particularly impressive: here, the Morávka River has carved a gorge-like riverbed with rock steps, rapids, and gravel terraces. This gives the surroundings a natural experience that clearly differs from an ordinary walking trail. At the same time, churches, chapels, and historic sites can be found in and around Staré Město, making it easy to combine nature and cultural discoveries.

River Landscapes and Trails in the Surrounding Area

Profil Morávky is a natural monument area offering opportunities for walks from Staré Město. The different forms of the riverbed shape the character of the outing: rock steps and rapids stand alongside wider gravel terraces. Those who prefer to explore the surroundings on two wheels will also find opportunities for cycling trips around Staré Město.

Another distinctive landmark is Hůrky Hill. At 342 metres, it is the highest point above Staré Město. This provides a second landscape perspective for planning your day alongside the river valley: here, the focus is not on the riverbed and its rock formations, but on the hill's elevated position above the town.

Churches, Chapels, and Historical Traces

The Church of St Joseph stands out in the townscape because of its architectural history. It was built from 1902 to 1903 in a purely Romanesque style, completed in 1904, and dedicated to Saint Joseph. These three details make the church interesting both architecturally and historically: its origins date to the beginning of the 20th century, while the Romanesque style reflects a consciously historical architectural language.

Another local feature is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1878 by local farmers as a thanksgiving for the harvest and stands on the road from Staré Město to Baška. The Na Skotni Chapel, by contrast, is located on the road from Staré Město to Skalice. It is well maintained but carefully locked. Since the door is made entirely of wood, it is hardly possible to see inside. This limitation is important for your visit: at Na Skotni, you can mainly experience the exterior site by the road, not a freely accessible interior.

Historic Jamnice also adds to the picture of the area. It was a settlement with a fortification on the trade route from Moravia to the Těšínsko region. The site thus points to a period when trade routes and fortified settlements shaped regional history.
