Paskov – Castle Park, History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Paskov
Paskov combines a significant castle complex with a park accessible year-round, a historical route through the town and a cycling route to Vratimov. This gives the town various points of interest for a trip: you can explore cultural history, discover a park with distinctive trees and a watercourse, or choose Paskov as the starting point for a cycling tour.
Paskov Castle and its special features
Paskov Castle has been a protected cultural monument since 1958. The entrance ensemble includes buildings in the outer bailey area as well as Baroque statues of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Sebastian. Another special feature is the Chapel of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia. It is attached externally to the castle’s four-winged building; stucco decoration has been preserved on its vaults.
For your planning, it is important to note that Paskov Castle is currently closed to the public during extensive renovation work. The renovation began in spring 2025 and is expected to be completed in autumn 2026. The castle therefore cannot currently be planned as a publicly accessible interior sightseeing attraction. However, its cultural and historical significance remains a defining part of the townscape.
Castle park with seasonal opening hours
Paskov Castle Park is accessible year-round. From April to September, you can visit it from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; from October to March, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The park therefore offers an independent element of a visit, even while the castle itself is closed.
In the northern part of the castle park, you will find rare trees and the Říčka watercourse. This combination gives the park a clearly distinctive character: alongside its historical connection to the castle, the design of the park landscape is also a central feature. If you would like to combine culture and time outdoors during your stay in Paskov, the park can be included independently of whether the castle is open.
Church, local history and historical sites
The existence of Paskov can be reliably dated to the first half of the 13th century. Another prominent element of the town’s history is the stone Church of Saint Lawrence, built in 1740 in the Folk Baroque style. Its grounds, with an enclosing wall and chapels, have been undergoing revitalization since 2024; completion is planned for 2027. This information describes an ongoing project, not a completed state.
For a closer exploration of the town, a historical information trail with ten stops is available. It can begin at Paskov Square. This provides a clearly structured way to get to know Paskov through several historical sites without focusing the visit exclusively on the castle.
Cycling from Paskov Castle
There is also a specific option for an active day: the Paskov–Vratimov cycling route begins at Paskov Castle and is suitable for bicycles. If, when choosing your accommodation, you value combining historical discoveries with a cycling tour, you can include the castle area as the starting point of this route in your plans. For a more culture-focused stay, the castle park, church and historical information trail stand alongside one another as distinct themes within the same town.
