Ostravice is a destination where you can discover mountain landscapes, hiking, and culture at specific sites. The trail to Lysá hora, the Srub Petra Bezruče, wooden art, and a heritage-listed church offer different ways to explore the region. A brewery tour and historical exhibitions add further topics to the hike.

Hiking the Trail to Lysá hora

The Lysá hora Educational Trail is 16.5 km long and has 15 stations. There are also two information boards at the summit near the meteorological station. The trail can be started at two locations at Ostravice railway station. The section from Ostravice to the summit follows the red-marked hiking trail. Along the way, information is provided about the legend of the bandit Ondráš, caves and treasures, the former landscape, and the region’s flora and fauna. The combination of a clearly structured route and diverse topics helps you view the hike according to your interests without reducing the trail to a single story.

In the Footsteps of Petr Bezruč

The Srub Petra Bezruče preserves the living area of the poet’s summer house in its original form, including the interior designed by Petr Bezruč himself. The adjacent wooden shed houses the “Krajem Petra Bezruče” exhibition, established in 1983. During your visit, you can learn about the authentic surroundings of the summer house, the poet’s life stories, and the landscape below the Beskids. Petr Bezruč captured the region’s difficult past in his major work “Slezské písně”.

Wooden Art and Living Cultural History

In the Biskupská Garden, “Ráj dřevěných soch” permanently displays carvings by woodcarver Luděk Vančura. The permanent exhibition is located next to the Ostravice municipal office and adds its own distinctive note to the town’s literary history. The art group bearing Petr Bezruč’s name is also part of Ostravice’s cultural history: it was founded in 1970. Its exhibition was held annually in Ostravice until 2017 and has been held in July since 2019 in the gymnasium of the primary school in Ostravice. It lasts approximately four weeks.

Church, Mountain Chalet, and Brewery Tour

The Roman Catholic church in Ostravice was built in 1788–1789 in the so-called folk style with Baroque elements. Since 1999, it has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. A painting by B. Herbert from 1706 hangs above the altar. The Dřevjanka U Zbuja is also part of the local mountain and excursion culture. Following its renovation, it has served as a mountain chalet since 1999. At Beskydský pivovárek, a visit to the restaurant can be combined with a brewery tour. Prior registration is required; alternatively, you can join a public tour.
