Horní Tošanovice – Castle History in a Picturesque Foothill Landscape
Accommodation in Horní Tošanovice
Horní Tošanovice combines a distinctive local history with a picturesque foothill landscape. Located between the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the Žermanice Reservoir, the village offers various points of interest for a trip: historic architecture, a bell tower that remains functional to this day, and two documented cycling routes. Horní Tošanovice is therefore particularly suitable for your research if you do not wish to view culture and landscape separately.
Castle, Park and Bell Tower
Horní Tošanovice Castle is at the heart of the village's history. Emanuel Harasovský and his son Karel built it in the 1830s. Its distinctive architectural features include the original stucco decoration and a large central staircase hall. These details make the castle a tangible testimony to the architectural history of the village and give the historical aspect of Horní Tošanovice more depth than a mere place name.
The remains of the castle park are also noteworthy: they are classified as an immovable cultural monument and thus represent another historic part of the village. At the same time, the interior of the castle is currently used for residential purposes. For planning your visit, it is therefore useful to make a clear distinction: the castle shapes the history and appearance of the village, but its current residential use does not imply a regular sightseeing offer.
A second historical point of reference is the bell tower of Horní Tošanovice. It was built around 1850 and remains fully functional to this day. Together with the castle, it shows that the history of the village is not limited to a single building, but can also be traced in smaller structures that continue to exist.
Foothill Landscape and Cycling Routes
The location between the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the Žermanice Reservoir provides Horní Tošanovice with its landscape setting. This is a foothill landscape, not a high-Alpine starting point. This classification is helpful when choosing a destination if you are looking for an environment with a regional landscape character while also wishing to include cultural discoveries in the village.
Two cycling routes pass through the municipal area of Horní Tošanovice. Cycling route 6089 runs from Ropice via Hnojník to Komorní Lhotka and passes through the municipal area of Horní Tošanovice; it is preserved there. Cycling route 6125 runs from the Hnojník junction via Horní Tošanovice to Zavadovice and is likewise preserved within the municipal area.
In addition, footpaths, cycle paths and agricultural roads were built as part of the development of transport infrastructure and tourism.
Historic Transport Routes and Orientation
The Český Těšín–Frýdek-Místek railway line runs through Horní Tošanovice. This provides a documented, specific railway connection for your geographical orientation, without implying the presence of a railway station or a specific local connection.
Historically, Horní Tošanovice was also located on the former Imperial Road. In the past, this connected Silesia with the other lands of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The road connection therefore explicitly belongs to the earlier history of transport and should not be equated with a statement about a present-day transport route. Together with the castle, bell tower, railway line and cycling routes, this creates a multifaceted picture of the village: Horní Tošanovice is shaped by cultural history, situated in the foothills, and made interesting for various travel interests by its documented route connections.
