Water, Trails and History in Dolní Domaslavice

If you would like to discover a place with a waterside landscape, active excursions and historical traces, Dolní Domaslavice offers several different points of interest. The Žermanice Reservoir lies on the Lučina River, extends partly across Dolní Domaslavice and has a water surface of approximately 250 hectares. This makes the body of water one of the defining landscape features of the town.

Swimming Area and Water Sports

The “VN Žermanice – Dolní Domaslavice” swimming area is located below the Dolní Domaslavice campsite. It has a grass beach with a shallow entry into the water. The campsite also has a snack stand, toilets and showers; there are no lifeguards or medical staff on site. These clear conditions are important to bear in mind when planning your stay around the swimming area or the water.

The Žermanice Reservoir is used for recreation and offers excellent conditions for water sports, including windsurfing. This means that time by the water can be enjoyed in different ways: the swimming area provides a specific place on the shore, while the reservoir itself is also interesting for more athletic activities.

High Point and Active Trails

Beyond the lake, the landscape also rises to higher elevations. At 378.6 metres above sea level, U lípek is the highest point in Dolní Domaslavice and offers expansive views of the surrounding area. For a hike, the Prašivá educational trail is available. One branch of this trail begins in Dolní Domaslavice and ends at the summit of Malá Prašivá mountain. The start in Dolní Domaslavice and the destination at the summit of Malá Prašivá give the hike a clearly recognizable direction.

There is also a designated route for a cycling trip: Cycle Route 6090 runs from Dolní Domaslavice to Český Těšín. This means you can consider the town not only as a destination for a stay by the water, but also as the starting point for a connection towards Český Těšín, without conflating the two types of excursion.

Cultural Traces of Both Domaslavices

The parish church of Saint James the Greater stands on the border between Horní and Dolní Domaslavice. Historically, it formed the shared centre of both municipalities. Today, the church is once again a spiritual centre where residents of both Domaslavice municipalities meet. It therefore represents both their shared history and present-day community life.

The former château of Dolní Domaslavice is also part of the town’s history. It was a small Neoclassical château with Empire-style elements, built in 1804. A corner interior in the vestibule of the municipal office now recalls the Slezská jizba exhibition of the former museum. The historic Domaslavské Museum comprised 1,390 inventory numbers.
