Nature along the Morávka and history in Dobrá

Dobrá U Frýdku-Místku is a destination for travellers who want to combine nature observation, river landscapes and local history. Particularly characteristic are several protected landscape areas along the Morávka, as well as the Church of St. George with its long construction history. There is also the Jihlava—Český Těšín cycle path, traditional events and individual historic buildings. This allows you to tailor your stay according to your interests, focusing more on nature, culture, activity or community celebrations.

Discover protected river landscapes

The Niva Morávky nature monument covers areas in the cadastral territory of Dobrá u Frýdku-Místku. The Niva Morávky nature monument protects a section of the Morávka River as an alpine river course with gravel deposits. The protected habitats include characteristic communities, as well as accompanying ash-alder floodplain forests and oak-hornbeam forests. Niva Morávky was included in the Natura 2000 network as a site of European importance because of its scientific significance, which extends beyond the level of the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Another focal point is the Profil Morávky nature monument. It protects the gorge-like course of the natural, gravel-bearing Morávka River, with rock steps and rapids. This landscape is complemented by Kamenec, a wetland in the Morávka floodplain. There is a network of pools and a salt pond connected to a marsh. Swimming is also possible in the Morávka when the water quality is very good. The river landscape thus appears in different forms: as a habitat, as a geologically shaped river course and as a place to spend time by the water.

Church, pilgrimage and historic buildings

The cultural centre is the early Baroque Church of St. George in Dobrá. František Eusebius z Oppersdorfu had it built between 1682 and 1686. The so-called Russian tower was added later, between 1816 and 1818. The main pilgrimage to the church takes place on the Sunday after the feast day of Saint George. Those who want to learn about local history through more than just religious buildings can also visit the “U Oráče” restaurant, a Baroque building dating from around 1720.

Cycle path and regional events

The Jihlava—Český Těšín cycle path runs along the edge of Dobrá.

The Doberská pětka, a traditional running competition, offers another insight into local community life. The twelfth edition took place on 23 May 2026. The programme included a race for preschool children with 70 participants and an extensive accompanying programme for children.

Velká Doberská is also one of the town’s traditional events and is held at the end of the summer holidays. Together with the pilgrimage and the running competition, it shows that recurring local traditions play a role in Dobrá alongside protected landscapes. For further travel planning, you can therefore choose nature experiences, the river and swimming, cycling, architectural history or an event date as your main focus.

For comparing other destinations in the same selection, you can also consider Staříč, Palkovice, Žabeň, Hnojník, Janovice, Krmelín, Kozlovice and Fryčovice.
