Krckovice-Hrubá Skála: Nature and Village Culture in the Bohemian Paradise
Krckovice-Hrubá Skála combines the distinctive landscape of the Bohemian Paradise with small cultural discoveries. Krčkovice lies in the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area, where rocks rise directly from the surface of Věžák Pond. Between the village square, hiking trails, chapel, and information centre, a destination takes shape that brings nature experiences and regional history together within a compact area.
Rocks and Trails around Věžák
At Věžák, rocks shape the appearance of the pond and give the surrounding area its distinctive character. The summit of Vodní skála rock can be reached via a climbing route from the water or on foot from the opposite side. This allows you to choose between different ways of exploring the area without confusing the documented paths and access routes.
The village square in Krčkovice also lies on a hiking trail: one path leads via the Čertoryje signpost and past the Pohádkový domek to the village square. From there, a field path between the houses leads back to the green-marked trail through the Čertoryje Canyon. The village square can therefore serve as a possible stopping point if you would like to combine the section via Čertoryje with the return route to Čertoryje Canyon.
Village History and Visible Culture
The Chapel of the Guardian Angels stands on the village square in Krčkovice, a free-standing rectangular building with a tower. A stone plaque above its entrance bears the year 1735. The village square is also home to wayside shrines. Several different examples of rural building and commemorative culture can therefore be found together in one place.
Above Věžák Pond, a monument to the Kosin family stands in Krčkovice. It commemorates more than three centuries of continuous farming of the “Na Budách” farm by one farming family. The site complements the natural features around the pond with a story connected to agriculture and long-term land management.
Environmental Education and Practical Information
The Věžák Information Centre offers environmental education programmes for visitors to the Bohemian Paradise throughout the summer. These include exhibitions, photographs, and information materials. The annual Ekotage at Věžák offer activities aimed especially at younger visitors, entertaining them while providing information about specific nature conservation topics in the Bohemian Paradise.
The Věžák Information Centre is located at Krčkovice 31, Hrubá Skála, 511 01. It is part of the network of tourist information centres in the Bohemian Paradise. The network provides up-to-date information about excursions, events, and destinations, as well as maps, travel guides, experience tips, regional products, and admission tickets. For your planning, you can therefore find both general guidance and specific materials for further research there.
