Jesenný between the Educational Trail, History and the Quarry Lake

Jesenný combines nature experiences, historic sites and an unusual underwater world. You can explore a 5.5-kilometre educational trail, follow the traces of regional history or discover the private quarry lake with its unique underwater landscape. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore focus your stay on nature, culture or water.

Hiking in the Vošmenda Valley

The Údolím Vošmendy educational trail is a 5.5-kilometre circular route that can be walked in both directions and follows blue- and green-marked hiking trails. It runs along the boundary of the municipalities of Bozkov, Jesenný and Roztoky u Semil. Along the route, there are exceptional views of the Ještědsko-kozákovský Ridge, the Jizera Mountains and the western Krkonoše Mountains.

The remains of the historic extraction and processing of limestone and iron ore are still visible in the valley. Eleven information panels, rest areas, a climbing facility and interactive elements for children complement the route. In Jesenný, a geological excursion route also leads to a limestone-mining station. Rest areas and the climbing facility add an active break to the historical and geological stations.

Routes and Orientation

Another route idea is the Palackého Route. From Tanvald, it passes through Jesenný and Bohuňovsko at kilometre 13. Between Jesenný and Podspálov, it includes a four-kilometre section. Jesenný railway station is located on the Tanvald–Železný Brod railway line and is therefore also part of the local orientation.

Castle and Chapel in Jesenný

The Renaissance fortress of Jesenný was converted into an early Baroque château; the château dates from 1664. In 1715, it was extended with a château chapel dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The château grounds are freely accessible.

In the upper part of Jesenný, on Kalvárie Hill, stands the octagonal Povýšení sv. Kříže Chapel. It was built in 1734 by Maxmilián Rudolf Lamotte von Frintrop. In front of the chapel, six polychrome statues line a masonry balustrade. Thus, in addition to the educational trail, Jesenný offers a concentrated historic destination for a culturally oriented stay.

The Quarry Lake as a Special Discovery

The Jesenný quarry lake is a freshwater quarry with a maximum depth of 13 metres. Underwater, you can see, among others, tench, carp and koi carp, sturgeon, eels, perch, pike, catfish, trout, whitefish, nase, silver carp, zander, crayfish and freshwater mussels. Divers can also explore the steel structure of a tower, the wreck of a Volkswagen minibus and a caisson. The combination of observing wildlife and sunken objects clearly distinguishes the lake from the hiking and cultural destinations in Jesenný. The private quarry is accessible only through the base; visits must always be arranged in advance. Access through the base and the required advance booking are therefore part of planning a visit.
