Kytlice between River, Forest and Culture

Kytlice lies at an elevation of 462 m on both banks of the Kamenice River, amid the forests of the Lusatian Mountains. The combination of the riverside setting and woodland landscape shapes the character of the village and creates a varied setting for nature experiences, culture and excursions. The riverbanks and forest together define the local landscape.

Historic Villagescape and Protected Nature

A prominent cultural landmark is the Baroque single-nave Church of St. Anthony of Padua. It was designed by the Děčín architect Jan Václav Kosch. The foundation stone was laid on 7 September 1777, and the church was consecrated on 10 October 1782. A statue of St. Anthony of Padua from the second half of the 18th century stands in the meadow below the church.

The villagescape includes numerous log houses with half-timbered structures, timber-frame or log-built upper floors, and mansard roofs. The different house types complement the religious centre with a distinctly rural villagescape. The Kytlice natural monument has a particular connection to nature: it protects the occurrence of spring crocus (Crocus vernum agg.) in regularly mown natural wet meadows. Regular mowing is therefore part of preserving this special meadow habitat.

Active Days and Excursion Destinations

In Kytlice, you can go on bike rides along forest tracks and cycle paths. You can swim in a natural pond with a sandy beach. Families have two playgrounds at their disposal: U Zlatokopa and another near the fire station. This makes it possible to combine water, exercise and playgrounds in a single day. The Kytlice Information Centre provides information about the Kytlicko area and its surroundings, cultural and social events in the municipality, accommodation in guesthouses, excursion tips and train connections.

The Okolím Studence educational trail runs through Mlýny, a district of the municipality of Kytlice. It has 20 bilingual stations in Czech and German, starts at the railway station in Mlýny and is 22.5 km long, including a detour to Studenec. The trail thus combines local orientation with an extensive route through the landscape. Its length, including the detour, makes it a long hike rather than a short walk.

Lesní divadlo and Routes through the Surrounding Area

Historically, the Lesní divadlo in Mlýny ranks among the most significant open-air theatres in Bohemia. Its current repertoire consists mainly of classical comedies, fairy tales for children and various music programmes. In this way, the open-air theatre adds its own programme of events to the landscape and cultural themes around Kytlice. The programme thus ranges from its historical significance as an open-air theatre to current performances for different interests.

A 22 km route through the Lusatian Mountains leads via Česká Kamenice, Kamenický Šenov, Prácheň with Panská skála, Polevsko, Kytlice, Mlýny and Pustý zámek back to Česká Kamenice. The 22 kilometres connect several towns and sights in a continuous loop through the mountains.
