Vracovice combines protected landscape, small bodies of water and regional culture within a compact area. The Částrovické Ponds are particularly characteristic: the protected area lies 1 kilometre southeast of Vracovice and includes three smaller ponds as well as wet meadows in a shallow valley along the Částrovický stream. This makes the locality an interesting destination if you would like to combine nature observation, peaceful landscapes and cultural discoveries.

Between ponds and protected landscape

The wet meadows of the Částrovické Ponds are home to protected plant species, including the broad-leaved marsh orchid and bogbean. Part of the cadastral area of Vracovice lies within the Blaník Protected Landscape Area. This designation forms part of the locality’s distinctive landscape identity, without reducing Vracovice to a single natural feature. The Machlov Pond is also part of the protected area. It forms part of the Částrovické Ponds Natural Monument and lies within the Blaník Protected Landscape Area. A restoration project coordinated with the municipality of Vracovice included dredging the pond, repairing the dam and fully restoring the pond ecosystem. Today, Machlov Pond is considered an important natural area with a species-rich community of plants and animals. For your stay, this landscape therefore provides a clear focus if you would like to experience the character of a protected pond and meadow landscape.

Chapel and places of remembrance in the village

Vracovice’s local history can also be discovered directly in the village. The chapel is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. During a reconstruction from 1980 to 1984, the ceiling was raised and a choir and tower were built. This transformed the original chapel into a small church. There is also a memorial plaque at the chapel wall on the village green, commemorating those who fell in the First World War. The village green thus brings together religious history and local remembrance in one specific place. The chapel also reveals its later architectural development.

Cycling on forest and field paths

The approximately 25-kilometre-long “Po stopách blanických rytířů” cycle path passes through Vracovice. Along the route, there are six rest areas with information boards. The route runs along forest and field paths and only partly on roads with little traffic. For planning your day, this offers a different perspective on the surroundings than visiting the ponds alone: you can experience the landscape as a continuous cycling area while combining different sections of the route. Vracovice is also one of the municipalities that, together with other localities and the Kraj blanických rytířů, z. s., organises the annual “Blanický cyklorytíř” cycling event. The event traditionally opens the cycling season. On weekdays, approximately 12 connections operate to Vracovice; this information can help you get your first bearings regarding the location of the village without presupposing a particular way of travelling there. If you are looking for accommodation in Vracovice, choose the locality primarily according to the focus you want for your stay: the protected ponds and wet meadows represent nature, the chapel and memorial plaque local history, and the cycle path active exploration.
