Discover Votice: Jewish Heritage, Cycle Path and Family Experiences
Accommodation in Votice
Votice combines cultural history, physical activity and discoveries for children within a compact thematic area. Here you will find a Jewish museum in a restored historic hall, a former monastery, distinctive religious buildings, a section of cycle path and excursion destinations with geological and playful elements. This allows you to shape your stay according to your interests, combining history, activity and shared family time.
Jewish Heritage with a Clear Historical Context
The Jewish cemetery in Votice preserves 360 gravestones, predominantly made of granite, dating from 1705 to the end of the 1930s. The period from the early 18th century to the 20th century thus encompasses several historical eras. The site includes a restored ceremonial hall with a mortuary, built in 1885 and serving as a regional Jewish museum since 2004. Important for your planning: The cemetery is locked; you can borrow the key from the information centre. Anyone wishing to visit the cemetery should therefore plan to borrow the key from the information centre.
Monastery, Chapel and Observation Tower
The former Franciscan monastery in Votice dates from the 17th century and offers guided tours with commentary as well as interesting exhibitions. The Boží hrob Chapel is one of 27 surviving Holy Sepulchre chapels in the Bohemian lands. You can look inside through a wrought-iron grille. Václavka is the 35-metre-high observation tower of the Kostel svatého Václava church in Votice.
Cycling on the Section to Olbramovice
The completed and operational first section of the Cyklostezka Votickem cycle path runs from Votice to Olbramovice. It is approximately three kilometres long and has a modern asphalt surface suitable for cyclists, pedestrians, pushchairs and inline skaters. This section therefore provides a specific opportunity to combine a short exercise session or excursion with different modes of transport. The approximate distance helps classify the section as a manageable part of an active day.
Geology, Games and a Children's Treasure Hunt
From the Kamenná vyhlídka viewpoint on Na Hůrkách hill above Votice, you can see Votice as well as the more distant hills of Benešovsko and Posázaví. There is also a unique outdoor geological exhibition with rock samples and thin sections, an underground telephone, a stony barefoot trail and board games for children. The view directs your gaze across the landscape, while the rock samples and thin sections provide a tangible focus on geology.
The children's treasure hunt “Putování po Voticích s knížetem Václavem” follows a two-kilometre route. The game map is available free of charge from the information centre or can be downloaded online. The fixed length of the treasure-hunt route also provides a clear framework for this discovery tour through the town. An annual event held for the feast of Saint Václav is the Svatováclavské slavnosti Votice, featuring a procession through the town, cultural performances, stalls, fairground attractions, as well as theatre and games for children. Also note for 2026: The Motýlárium is closed for operational reasons.
