Olbramovice – Cultural Monuments, Nature Park and Cycle Path
Accommodation in Olbramovice
Olbramovice combines remarkable cultural monuments with protected landscapes and routes for cycling and hiking excursions. At its heart is the originally Romanesque Church of All Saints, Kostel Všech svatých. The Romanesque construction phase is preserved in the tower’s rubble-stone masonry, the tower with double windows and the surrounding masonry of the nave. During the renovation in 1866, the church received its present pseudo-Romanesque façade. Particularly rich in detail are the paired windows divided by small columns, as well as the dressed granite edges on the windows and tower.
Historical Traces in the Village
Away from the church, Olbramovice also offers traces of various historical periods. The Špejchar is a granary belonging to the farmstead and a cultural monument. The Sýpka, a two-storey brick granary with a hipped roof, originated in the Renaissance and was remodelled in the Baroque period. Remains of sgraffito decoration and ornamental window openings with illusionistic painting have been preserved on the building. The building Dům | Sýpka has a Renaissance core, probably dating from the second half of the 16th century, and is an integral part of the historic manor estate in the village.
Sculptural monuments include a group depicting the Virgin Mary and Saint John dating from 1706, as well as the Calvary sculpture group, Sousošà Kalvárie. This Baroque sculpture group consists of a central granite balustrade in front of a vanished wooden cross and two sandstone statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist on higher granite pedestals. The year 1706 is inscribed on the pedestal of the statue of Mary. Another historical trace is TvrzištÄ› PĹ™Ăkop, a vanished medieval fortress dating from the 13th to the 15th century that stood in a pond in the village centre. Today, only remains of the pond embankment on the eastern side of the site are visible.
Nature Between Parkland and Pond Country
A considerable part of Olbramovice lies within DĹľbány–Žebrák Nature Park, designated in 1996. The PodhrázskĂ˝ rybnĂk Nature Reserve is also located nearby. It is an ornithological area and an important resting place for migrating waterbirds and waders. Thus, different natural features coexist in the surrounding area: the designated parkland and the pond country shaped by its importance for migratory birds.
Cycling and Hiking
For active exploration, the Votice–Olbramovice cycle path is one of the village’s specific attractions. It was completed, opened for use and ceremonially inaugurated on 15 September 2023. The Po stopách Sidonie Nádherné educational trail offers a different perspective. It has seven stops, is approximately 8.3 km long and connects Olbramovice with Vrchotovy Janovice.
The Prague–České Budějovice railway line runs through Olbramovice. The international I/3 road from Prague to Tábor also passes through the village.
