Radovesnice I combines an educational trail through the Štítarské Valley with remarkable traces of local and industrial history. Its location is clearly defined: the village lies 4 kilometres southwest of Kolín. This makes it possible to discover Radovesnice I as a destination in its own right, while Kolín serves as a geographical reference point.

Nature experience along the Pekelský Stream

The Štítarské Valley educational trail follows the Pekelský Stream from Štítary on the outskirts of Kolín through Radovesnice I to Zibohlavy. Those wishing to combine nature and activity while travelling through Czechia can include this route in their plans. The trail connects several places, allowing you to get to know Radovesnice I without focusing solely on individual sights. For families, this is a clear way to combine a visit to the village with an experience of the landscape; no specific daily stages or walking times are prescribed.

Castle construction and architectural history

The Radovesnice I castle complex includes a preserved Renaissance building in the farmyard, known as the old castle building. The historic character of the village is also reflected in the Baroque granary. It was built in 1790–1791 and received an extension in 1832–1833 to serve as a grain-drying facility. These two buildings represent different chapters in the village’s development and invite visitors to pay closer attention to the architecture and the former functions of the buildings during their stay.

The village’s earlier history reaches further back as well. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Maternové z Květnice had the first fortress built in Radovesnice. Together with the old castle building, this creates a historical narrative suited to travellers who want to understand not only the landscape but also the development of a place.

Industrial traces around Radovesnice

Another notable feature is the Radovesnice waterworks. It was built in 1897 as Kolín’s third drinking-water source. Two collection wells from 1897 have been preserved in the water-capture area of the waterworks near Radovesnice. The lower-lying well is covered by a two-metre-high masonry building with stone door jambs. Details like these broaden the perspective beyond traditional castle and local history: when planning your trip, you can also take the region’s technological development into account alongside its historic buildings.

The monument to Ondřej Sovina is also located in the wider vicinity of the destination, northeast of Radovesnice I on the road to Křečhoř. When looking for accommodation, you can decide based on your preferred interests whether the village itself, the educational trail, or the historic landmarks should be the focus of your trip.
