Hradiště: Discover History on the Blanice
Accommodation in Hradiště
Historical Traces and River Landscape
Hradiště is a place where church architecture, archaeological history, and the river landscape come together as distinct yet interconnected themes in the history of the locality. For families who do not want to choose their stay based on just one excursion destination, the town offers specific points of interest for culture and nature. When choosing a hotel, you may wish to consider Hradiště especially if historical traces and the landscape of the Blanice are to be at the center of your trip.
The Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity is the oldest building in Hradiště. It was rebuilt in 1767 on a cruciform ground plan, using the tower of an older, probably medieval church. A stone tablet bearing the year 1606 and three carved coats of arms is set into the tower. The building reflects older structural elements, the 18th-century reconstruction, and the surviving evidence from 1606.
Archaeological Site on the Promontory
The Hradiště archaeological site is classified as a settlement, church site, hilltop settlement, and fortification, and has been designated an important archaeological locality. A hilltop settlement is a settlement in an elevated location. Surface finds include ceramics from the 11th to the 16th century; some fragments may also date from the 10th century. The fortified site near Hradiště gradually lost its military and strategic importance and fell into ruin.
The site lies on a narrow, elongated promontory with rocky slopes above the left bank of the Blanice and a small tributary stream. The area is 40 to 50 meters above the river. This precise landform is therefore just as much a part of the historical context as the finds and the former fortification.
The Blanice and the Historic Long-Distance Route
The historic Vitorazská long-distance route ran along the Blanice through the central Posázaví region and continued via Český Šternberk to Kouřim. For trip planning, this connection offers an additional historical perspective on the landscape: the Blanice is not only part of the natural setting but is also connected with a transregional route.
The Vlašimská Blanice Site of European Importance encompasses the Blanice River between Vlašim and Mladá Vožice. It protects the brook lamprey (Lampetra planeri), the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita), the thick-shelled river mussel (Unio crassus), and the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra). Along the Blanice there are floodplain forests, wet meadows, and stands of tall sedges in some places. The river’s natural character provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species that have become rare or are rare in the surrounding landscape.
