Velké BÅ™ezno is one of the youngest and small historic castles of the Czech Republic. It was built in 1842-1856 for the burggraf of the Czech kingdom Karl Hotek. Designed initially in the late Empire style it was rebuilt during the late 19th - early 20th centuries into a magnificent neo-Renaissance-style estate. Then a picturesque park was founded around the castle. Well-known Dresden architect of that time Ernst Fleischer supervised the building process.
After Czechoslovakia got independence in the early twentieth century Velké BÅ™ezno was nationalized and turned into a Higher Party School. However, currently it attracts tourists as a museum of architecture, art and painting of the XIX century with excellent exhibitions.
