Driving to Czechia: vignette and tolls
Key facts about vignettes and tolls in Czechia
- As a rule, four-wheeled motor vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to and including 3.5 tonnes need an electronic vignette when using a toll motorway section.
- Motorcycles and trailers do not need their own vignette. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are subject to a separate electronic toll system.
- The route map identifies individual toll sections; not every motorway is subject to tolls along its entire length.
- In 2026, an annual vignette for a passenger car with a standard powertrain costs 2,570 KÄŤ. Shorter validity periods and certain alternative powertrains have their own rates.
- The one-day vignette is valid only until 23:59:59 on the selected day. Ten- and 30-day vignettes cover consecutive calendar days.
- Vehicles registered abroad that run on electricity or hydrogen must have an exemption notice filed before travelling on a toll motorway.
- Rates and route information current as of 11 October 2026. Amounts are given in Czech koruna (KÄŤ).
If you are comparing travel by train, plane or local public transport, the overview of getting to and planning your trip in Czechia may help. For a car journey, your specific route will determine whether you need a vignette.
Which vehicles need a vignette?
The official eDalnice rules cover motor vehicles with four wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes. The requirement does not apply simply because you cross the border; it applies when you drive such a vehicle on a toll motorway section. So check your vehicle documents and planned route together. You do not need to buy a separate vignette for a trailer attached to a passenger car, and motorcycles are also exempt.
Vehicles above the 3.5-tonne limit are not covered by the passenger-car vignette system. They are subject to the separate electronic truck toll. This mainly applies to heavy goods vehicles and coaches, which are registered and charged under different rules.
Vignette prices in 2026 by validity period and powertrain
The following price list applies to 2026. Standard fuel also includes liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); the discount for natural gas applies to CNG and LNG, but not LPG. Biomethane has its own discounted rate. Plug-in hybrids pay the lower rate only if their stated COâ‚‚ emissions are no more than 50 g/km; an ordinary hybrid does not qualify for it simply because it is a hybrid.
| Validity period | Standard fuel (including LPG) | Biomethane, CNG or LNG | Plug-in hybrid (up to 50 g COâ‚‚/km) | Electric or hydrogen |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 day | 230 | 110 | 50 | 0 |
| 10 days | 300 | 150 | 70 | 0 |
| 30 days | 480 | 240 | 120 | 0 |
| 1 year | 2,570 | 1,280 | 640 | 0 |
The annual vignette is valid for one year from the selected start date and is not automatically tied to the calendar year. Ten- and 30-day vignettes include the selected start date and remain valid for consecutive days. A one-day vignette expires at 23:59:59 Czech local time, so it is not a 24-hour pass. You can set the start date up to 30 days after purchase. If validity starts on the day of purchase, it begins as soon as the payment is processed.
Which motorway sections are subject to tolls?
The eDalnice map lists toll sections individually by motorway and junction. Examples include the D0 between Modletice and Slivenec and sections of the D1, such as Průhonice–Kývalka. Sections of the D2 and D3 are also listed. This does not mean that each motorway is subject to tolls continuously from start to finish.
Before setting off, compare your entry and exit points with the official route map. This is especially important if you change your route because of roadworks, a border crossing or a destination you want to visit. The official eDalnice shop brings together purchases, number-plate checks, current prices and access to the route map. Buy there or at an official sales point listed by the operator, and before paying, check the country of registration, number plate, powertrain and start date.
Understanding exemptions and discounts
According to the price list, fully electric and hydrogen vehicles pay 0 KÄŤ. For vehicles registered in Czechia, this is applied automatically. For vehicles registered abroad, the exemption is not activated automatically: the notice must be submitted before driving on a toll section. Simply selecting the zero rate or filing a notice later does not meet this requirement.
Other statutory exemptions apply only under precisely defined conditions. If you are claiming one, check in advance what evidence is required and whether you need to file a notice. If in doubt, do not assume you are exempt based solely on nationality, vehicle markings or a general disability status. The price list also distinguishes between powertrains: CNG and LNG qualify for a discount, LPG does not; for plug-in hybrids, the registered COâ‚‚ figure matters.
Choosing the right validity period for your trip
For a one-day trip through the country, a one-day vignette may be enough if you use all toll sections on the same calendar day. If your return journey starts after midnight, the vignette bought for the previous day will not cover the second day. For a longer stay, it makes sense to compare the actual days you will use motorways and the time between your outbound and return journeys with the ten- or 30-day validity periods. If you make several trips within a year, an annual vignette may be simpler than buying several short-term ones.
For a city break, where you will park the car during your stay also matters, as well as the toll. For a trip to Prague, you can plan your route to Prague and your stay in the city together, then compare accommodation in Prague. For a ski holiday, the winter sports areas in Czechia often involve different motorway sections than a city break. If you are travelling with your dog, also check the guidance on entry requirements, transport and holidays with a dog.
FAQ / Frequently asked questions about vignettes and tolls in Czechia
Does a vignette apply to all motorways in Czechia?
No. The official map identifies toll sections. Check your planned junctions on the current map; you cannot reliably tell whether your entire route is subject to tolls from the motorway number alone.
Is the one-day vignette valid for 24 hours?
No. It is valid on the selected day until 23:59:59 Czech local time. For journeys that cross midnight, you need validity covering both calendar days.
Can I drive an electric car registered abroad without a vignette?
Only if the exemption has been correctly notified in advance. For electric and hydrogen vehicles registered abroad, the required notice must be submitted before driving on a toll motorway.
Does a motorcycle or trailer need an electronic vignette?
No. Motorcycles and trailers are exempt from the electronic vignette requirement. For the towing vehicle, check whether the motor vehicle itself is subject to the requirement and what maximum permissible weight is shown in its registration documents.
