Worldwide Tour by Å koda 1000 MB

Prague Daily Monitor informs that two Czech students Martin Betko and Michal Vicar have set out on a worldwide expedition by classic Škoda 1000 MB car from Olomouc, North Moravia on Monday, September 1. They are planning to cover about 35,000 km traveling through Europe, Asia, Australia and America and visit such countries as Russia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela and others. The expected duration of trip is about 5 months.

Martin Betko, a member of small crew, made a comment about their tour, "The idea emerged about 2.5 years ago when we said that we have traveled across the whole country and would now want to see other places." Why by an old Škoda? "We decided to travel by car because it is practical and we have finally opted for an old Skoda MB. It is a beautiful, reliable and cheap car," Martin explained.

Before the journey, almost 40 years old Škoda 1000 MB named Julinka (short for Julia) has been completely renovated and custom enhanced - the backseats were removed and the suspension is raised. But the engine and the gearbox of good old 1000 MB are left original. This fine piece of Czech automotive industry has a top speed of 125km per hour and consumes about seven to eight liters of gas per 100 km.
