Rozmberk CastleThe Czech Republic (or Česká republika in Czech) is a country situated in Central Europe. Until 1993 it was a part of communist Czechoslovakia, which belonged then to the eastern bloc. Now it is a developed, democratic country, a member state of the European Union. Prague is the capital and the largest city in the country.

The Czech Republic borders Poland to the north, Germany to the northwest and southwest, Austria to the south, and Slovakia to the east. The country consists of the historic regions of Bohemia and Moravia and parts of Silesia. Administratively it is divided into thirteen regions (kraje) plus the capital city of Prague.

The Czech Republic is a landlocked country, i. e. it does not have access to the sea. The main rivers are the Elbe (Labe) (370 km) and the Vltava (433 km) in Bohemia, the Morava (246 km) in Moravia, the Dyje (306 km) the Oder (Odra) (135 km) and the Opava rivers (131 km) in Silesia.

Geographically, the country is situated on the boundary of two mountain ranges - the Czech highlands and the slightly higher mountain ranges of Šumava, Český les, Krušné hory, Krkonoše, Orlické hory and Jeseníky form the western and middle part of Bohemia and the West Carpathian Mountains (Beskydy) are located in the eastern part of the country.

The Czech Republic has very interesting and rich thousand-year-long history and culture, a lot of historic places and monuments. The main tourist destination is Prague, but other cities and towns, such as Karlovy Vary, Olomouc, Brno and others also have a lot of attractions and are worth visiting. Diverse nature and moderate continental climate provide great possibilities to have good vacation there. Which is more, the Czech Republic has excellent tourist and transport infrastructure.
