For the 46th time in Karlovy Vary will be awarded the Crystal Globe. From 1 to July 9, 2011 at the famous resort of the Czech Republic will be held annual Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. This time at the festival will dominate European films, but the honor of opening the festival is given to the American "Jane Air", directed by Cary Fukunaga, where one of the key roles played famous British actress Judi Dench. At this film festival Judi Dench will be awarded with the Crystal Globe for "Outstanding actor's contribution to the world cinema".
For the main prize of the festival this year will compete eight films:
"Cracks In The Shell" - a film by German director Christian Schwochow. In Karlovy Vary will be the world premiere of the film.
"No tengas miedo" (Do not fear) of the Spanish director Montxo Armendáriz.
"Værelse 304" (Room 304) of the Danish director Birgitte Stærmose.
"The Jewel" - Italian director Andrea Molaioli.
"Heritage" of the Polish director Andrzej Barański.
"Not for Sale Not for Rent" - director Pascal Rabaté.
"Gypsy" - Slovak director Martin Šulík.
"Lollipop Monster" - German director Ziska Riemann.
In addition to the competition of full-length films, the festival program includes a contest of documentary films "Horizons", "Another Look" - a competition of unusual art works, "East of the West" - films from the former Soviet bloc and the competition of the Czech films. In total at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will be presented over 250 works.
Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is one of the oldest in Europe. It was held for the first time in 1946 (as well as the Cannes Film Festival) and in 1960 the festival was moved to the most prestigious international category "A".
