Pope Benedict XVI Plans Visiting The Czech Republic

(Society News)

Recently Vatican informed that this autumn the pope Benedict XVI is planning to visit the Czech Republic. Most likely, he will pay a three-day visit to Prague and then come to see several other Czech cities in the end of September. The Czech president commented that he will be very proud to meet the head of Catholic Church in his country.

Note: Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Alois Ratzinger) was born on 16 April 1927 in Marktl am Inn, Bavaria, Germany. He is 265th pope (the eighth of German origin) and is one of the oldest persons elected as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. Benedict XVI has an academic background and used to work as a professor in several German universities until he moved to Rome in 1981. He was chosen in a papal conclave on 19 April 2005. The Papal Inauguration Mass took place on 24 April 2005.

Pope Benedict XVI is known to be rather conservative in theological issues and true to traditional Catholic beliefs and values. He is worried that Christian traditions in Europe are fading away while consumerism rules on the continent. As a Pope, Benedict XVI advocates to stick to fundamental Christian values and withstand secularization.
